- The Truman Net Price Calculator/Scholarship Estimator provides only estimated values. Official awards are made upon admission to the University. Admitted students who have completed the FAFSA will receive a financial aid package letter in the Spring with the most up-to-date cost of attendance information.
- If you think you might qualify for the non-resident tuition grant, please consider doing this calculation as an out-of-state and in-state student for your own reference.
Competitive Scholarships:
Estimated net price does not factor in competitive, non-automatic scholarships, and awards. Visit the Competitive Scholarships page for information about competitive Truman awards. Students should apply for admission to Truman by December 1 for their most complete competitive scholarship consideration. For fall enrollees, most scholarship recipients are notified via mail of their additional awards by late January.
Financial Aid:
There are many grant, loan, and work-study opportunities. Eligibility for federal and state financial aid is determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Complete the FAFSA online at studentaid.gov. The estimated open date for the 2024-2025 FAFSA is December 2023 (The FAFSA open date will be October 1 for the 2025-2026 FAFSA). You could be eligible for up to $5,500 in Federal Direct Student Loan assistance. Parent PLUS loans are also available and require the FAFSA be submitted. Be sure to include the Truman’s FAFSA code 002495. Some state programs require an February 1 deadline for FAFSA submission. See financialaid.truman.edu for more information on financial assistance. State and federal aid is dependent on available funding and subject to change by the state and federal governments without notice.
Federal Loan Programs:
The U.S. Department of Education has federal student loan programs:
- The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program is the largest federal student loan program. Under this program, the U.S. Department of Education is your lender. There are three types of Direct Loans available:
- Direct Subsidized Loans are loans made to eligible undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need to help cover the costs of higher education at a college or career school.
- Direct Unsubsidized Loans are loans made to eligible undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, but in this case, the student does not have to demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the loan.
- Direct PLUS Loans are loans made to graduate or professional students and parents of dependent undergraduate students to help pay for education expenses not covered by other financial aid.
Cost Estimates:
Costs are estimated based upon the 2024-2025 average costs. Charges are subject to change by the Board of Governors without written notice. Automatic scholarship award criteria and values reflect policy for incoming 2024-2025 academic year students and are subject to change.
Indirect Costs:
Indirect costs are based on national averages. Costs vary based on student needs and preferences (i.e. you might not have a car payment but you still might use some money on transportation, for example), and can be influenced by choices made by individual students and their family.
