Admission: Master of Arts in Music Program
The Master of Arts in Music program prepares promising graduate students for future leadership roles and cultivates musical potential. Students choose from a wide range of music graduate study options. Our flexible degree programs are designed to meet the needs of the individual graduate student. Our faculty are nationally and internationally recognized performers, conductors, composers, and scholars. Specific course information and requirements can be found in the catalog. We offer the Master of Arts degree with concentrations in:
- Conducting: Vocal Emphasis
- Conducting: Instrumental Emphasis
- Instrumental Performance (Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Strings)
- Music History/Research
- Piano Performance
- Theory/Composition
- Vocal Performance
Application Checklist
- Online application and $40 fee
- Personal statement/interests (uploaded in online application)
- Three letters of recommendation (Submit recommender’s information in online application)
- Transcripts from all colleges and universities from which you earned college credit, including high school dual credit (Truman applicants do not need to submit Truman transcripts)
- Audition and/or interview
- OPTIONAL: Graduate Teaching Research Assistant (GTRA) application (available as part of online application)
Deadlines
Applications for acceptance into the Master of Arts in Music Program are due on the following dates:
- Spring: November 1
- Summer: April 1
- Fall: June 1
GTRA applications for the upcoming academic year are due February 15.
Please note, to enroll during regular enrollment/registration dates, your application should be completed by February 1 for Summer/Fall start and by September 1 for Spring start.
